There is a different shot of this bird on my website: [link]
I haven't shot wildlife or birds in a while; figured I'd give it a go. There is this wonderful bush, and it's got all of these awesome flowers on it. They attract humming birds like mad. It was bugging me that I didn't get out and shoot them last year, so I decided it would be a good idea to go out and get a few photos.
Of course, the second I get there they all flee. And none come back. I swear, every other time I'm walking past this bush, there are always four or five around it, just doing their thing. It must've been the camera or something, because I could've ran past the bush screaming before and they'd just keep having a jolly good time.
Eventually, I walked away to grab my cell phone. Of course, when I come back, there are three humming birds fighting over the bush and squawking like mad (boy are these things loud).
In the end, the lighting was iffy and it was difficult to get the exact shot I wanted because of how dark out it was and the fact that they hid every time I pointed the camera in their direction. So it looks like I'll be shooting these things again another day.
And yeah, these tiny birds are very territorial. Be warned; humming birds may attack.
I cropped it as a square because I felt the composition was stronger this way. If I'm wrong, please tell me and I'll change it back to the original. I think the square really helps focus in on the bird though.

I love this photo, a LOT. I know your pain! I've tried to take photos of the New Holland honeyeater, and every time I try to take a photo the damned things take flight! Of course, when I don't have my camera with me they couldn't care less what I do Haha
I know what you mean. It's something about the lens, isn't it... Just that shiny, dark bit, or perhaps the shape of it. They just freak out instantly. Thanks for the comment
Yeah.. I don't know how or where they learnt to recognise cameras, but it is saddening at times. Someone should create an invisibility setting XD De nada, it is a wonderful photo
De nada, it is a wonderful photo
If that’s NOT okay just let me know and I’ll remove it immediately
Many thanks for sharing such incredible imagery =Cmac13
